Citizens on Patrol (COPs)
COPS is a volunteer group under the direction of the Durham Police Department.
We patrol from 7 am until 9 pm, in 4 shifts, whenever volunteers have the time to “patrol”.
Most in C.O.P. are members of the PAC from their district. We get a lot of assignments from information gathered at PAC meetings.
COPs will check houses when residents are on vacation, as well checking on elder and sick that live alone.
COPS are always looking to maintain the quality of life for the citizens of our residents. We are looking for graffiti, abandoned vehicles, shopping carts left in neighborhoods, weedy lots, and anything else that would effect the quality of our life.
COPS is on the look out for evidence of illegal activities. We partol neighborhoods and other areas where break ins and other illegal activities are occuring.
The best way to get into contact with C.O.P. is to contact Master Officer Erwin Baker (Erwin.Baker@durhamnc.gov). He is the Officer directly over us.
We also encourage ride alongs with us. That is the best way to see if the program is a good fit for you. For that, the C.O.P. Captain for the District should be contacted. My e-mail (fbrownrtr@aol.com).
